MLive says: “Standing atop Copper Peak will make you feel like you are on top of the world. On a clear day, you can see three states and Canada when peering out from the top of North America's largest ski jump. If you want to take the Copper Peak Adventure Ride that places you 1782 feet above sea level, you will have to visit between Memorial Day and the end of October. Mountain bikers will love the trails you'll find here and runners can participate in the challenging Red Bull 400 in mid-May.”

We went to Copper Peak, not realizing that by “adventure ride” they meant a ski lift taking you up the mountain. The adventure ride closes at 4 pm, and we arrived at about 4:15 pm. It was a sad time, driving out there and not getting to go to the top of the mountain.
Chloe and I were camping in Gogebic County at Lake Gogebic State Park the entire time we were together; so while I didn’t get to visit the top of Copper Peak like the article suggested, I would say I can check Gogebic County off my list! The State Park had kayak and canoe rentals, a small beach, lots of lakefront camp sites, and extremely helpful and friendly staff. There were a few lodges around the lake to grab a beer and some cheese curds, too (the cheese curds were for Chloe). Not a bad spot to camp for a a few nights! Had it not been so buggy and rainy, we may have spent more time in the State Park itself instead of out and about in the Porkies.
Luckily, I’m heading back to the UP in September, and maybe I’ll have time to stop and ride to the top of Copper Peak then!
