MLive says: “A popular wedding venue, Southern Exposure Herb Farm provides a lush getaway near Battle Creek. If you love the look of a bountiful, blooming garden, you'll find it on the grounds here. You'll also spot fountains and grapevine arbors. You might even see some classic cars decorating the area. Check out the gift shop in a restored 1830s barn and an impressive concrete garden statuary. While just visiting the gardens is an option, Southern Exposure also holds special events, including dining experiences. Regular hours are 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday from April thought December.”

Calhoun County, much like many other counties in Michigan, is covered in farms with small towns interrupting the otherwise constant flow of agricultural fields. Southern Exposure is a spot tucked away in Calhoun County, where farm meets fancy.

It was raining on June 9 when I arrived at Southern Exposure, and I was really confused when I got there because I didn’t realize it was an event venue. There was a bridal shower taking place in one of the buildings, and I didn’t really understand where I was or what to do. I parked my car and just started walking.

I found gorgeous garden after gorgeous garden, beautifully kept buildings for hosting events, a massive herb garden, trellising and gazebos and greenhouses galore, and a coop full of friendly chickens! The grounds at Southern Exposure are honestly beyond beautiful; I’m sure that on a sunnier day I would have felt welcome to pull out a picnic blanket, some snacks, and a good book and spend a whole day there.

On my way back to my car, I ran into someone who works there, and they told me about all kinds of special dinners and craft nights that they host with tickets open to the public, and invited me back for an event. They also mentioned that there is a very cute small herd of cows that hangs out in their field that I should look out for if I come back.

Overall, Southern Exposure was a really cute spot with lots of charm! Because of the rain, though, I only stopped to explore for about two hours; then I was back on the road to my next spot!
